February is Black History Month, and as she does each year, Associate Director Susan Boland has included slides about partner and associate demographics at law firms in the library’s display. The slides highlight the relatively small proportion of African American attorneys in both partnership and associate positions, in relation to total proportion of the population. While progress has been made in the past few decades, as in other areas of our country’s life much work remains to be done in fighting the effects of our long history of slavery, Jim Crow laws, and systemic racism.
