Fall Semester Begins — You’ve Got This!

Welcome 1Ls and new LLM students, and welcome back everyone else. The Marx Law Library know that you are all ready to face the excitement and challenges of the new academic year, and we’re with you. You’ve got this, and we’ve got you! We’ve got your back with CALI lessons, research guides, access to Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, and most importantly, skilled and knowledgeable librarians who will help you find the information you need and show you how to find it on your own. You know where to find us!

Welcome New Law Students!

We in the Marx Law Library are happy to welcome our new 1L, LLM, and transfer students. Orientation week is an exciting one and we encourage you to take advantage of your opportunities to learn about everything the College of Law has to offer, especially the library. We look forward to seeing you in our session Tuesday afternoon! Please note that sign-up for carrels will open on Friday, August 18th. Sign-up sheets will be available at the circulation desk.

The library offers online guides for both user information and substantive research help. You’ll find them all here, but we’ll mention a few that will be especially useful to new students:

Fall semester hours will begin Monday, August 21st.

Again, welcome!

Life After Exams

As the end of exams approach, you might want to start thinking about life after exams. The Law Library will still be here for you in the summer! Law Library summer hours begin after Friday, May 12. In the summer we are closed on Saturdays and Sundays and open Monday through Friday 8AM to 5PM.

Legal Research Boot Camp will be held May 15 at Cincinnati Law in the afternoon and May 16 at NKU Chase College of Law in the morning. The Legal Research Boot Camp is hosted by the University of Cincinnati College of Law and NKU Chase College of Law each May to refresh students’ legal research skills for any internships, externships or other legal work over the summer. Information and the registration form for the Legal Research Boot Camp can be found on the 2017 Legal Research Boot Camp page.

Over the summer, you still have access to one of the most valuable services that the Law Library has to offer — Reference Librarian expertise! Call the Reference Desk at 513-556-8078 with research questions and we’ll be happy to help with suggestions for sources and tips. Also, don’t forget the Library’s Web page and many research guides.

If you are curious about summer access to B-Law, CasemakerX, Lexis, and Westlaw, check out the Summer Access 2017 information on the Law Student Guide to the Law Library.

We will be doing a carrel clean-out on May 30th so make sure your personal items have been removed from your carrel. We are also taking summer carrel reservations. Contact susan.boland@uc.edu if you would like to reserve a carrel for the summer.

Students studying for the bar exam should be sure and check out our Bar Exam Resources Guide. You will find links to useful online study aids and information on print resources in the library to help you study for the bar exam.

Hit One Out of the Ball Park by Using Library Resources to Help You Study for Exams!

  • Use the more than 400 study aids available in West Academic.
  • Browse the printed study aid collection in the Reference 2 area.
  • Review your knowledge with the more than one thousand CALI lessons.
  • Reserve a study room for some quiet time or collaboration with your colleagues.
  • Stop by the circulation desk to literally put the finishing touches on your paper with a stapler or hole punch.

As you nourish your minds, don’t forget self-care. Take a walk outside. Stop by the Federal Room for snacks and caffeine. Thank an SBA member for the bagels and snacks! Thank a law librarian or staff member for the beverages and snack management!
