It’s Time For Oral Arguments

Speak Up, Counselor

At most law schools, the weeks after spring break mean that 1L students are delivering oral arguments as the final assignment in their Legal Writing and Research Classes. For many of them it is the first time they’ve had to engage in the give and take of oral argument with a judge or an opposing speaker. Others have more experience because they took formal debate classes in high school or college, and perhaps belonged to the National Speech and Debate Association, which in my younger days was the National Forensic League. (I did not participate in its activities.) Whether or not you are experienced in persuasive speaking, you will find a list of helpful aids compiled by Susan Boland in last week’s blog post.
