The Law Library and Our Librarians: Your Go-To Resources for Law School Success!

Welcome!

We in the Robert S. Marx Law Library welcome our entering 1L, transfer, and LL.M. students and welcome back the college’s returning students. In the past, students have often thought primarily of the library as a place: a place to study, a place to find materials, a place to meet colleagues and friends. While our Robert S. Marx Law Library occupies a particular space in the law school building, I encourage you to think of the law library as a confluence of resources and people whose goal is to help you succeed! Our expert staff members, some of whom you have already met, select a broad range of legal information resources that will help you develop your professional expertise. Our reference and research librarians will show you how to take the best advantage of our resources, and will counsel you on making the most of your time with us. We are accessible and ready to help you, and I look forward to personally meeting you very soon.

Start with a Research Guide

Whether you are a new law student or an “old hand,” the law library’s study guides offer expert advice on finding the information you need to conduct legal research, understand concepts, and identify key resources for your courses. Why not bookmark the guides listing page right now?

Then Add Some Study Aids

The law library offers you print study aids on reserve and West Academic Study Aids online. The online aids are accessible from within the law school’s network and you can create a personal account to access them from anywhere with an Internet connection. Learn about all the study aids in this handy guide from Susan Boland!

Set Up Your CALI Account Today

While you are setting yourself up for success, set up your CALI account. CALI offers more than 1,000 online lessons that will help you test your knowledge on most law school subjects. The authorization code that you need to create your account was included in the information provided at the library’s table last week. If you need that information, please stop by the library!

Introduction to Law Library Resources and Services

We had a great time yesterday discussing Law Library resources and services! Below are some things to help you remember everything we discussed:

Don’t forget to stop by the reference desk for a sweet treat!

Welcome LLM Students and the Class of 2019!

Welcome everyone to the College of Law! On Monday, August 15 the Law Library will have a table in the Atrium where we will be distributing Lexis, Westlaw, and Bloomberg Law credentials. You’ll want to register for these legal research services as soon as possible. Many of your professors have posted syllabi in the TWEN (The West Education Network) Syllabi course site. You need a Westlaw username and password in order to access TWEN and the Syllabi course.

On Wednesday, August 17, meet the Law Library faculty and staff at our 1:15pm session on Law Library resources. We’ll introduce you to all of the things the Law Library can do to help you succeed in law school!

Also, be sure and stop by the reference desk this week to meet the reference librarian on duty, eat a sweet treat, and get your Cincinnati Law Passport stamped.
