Jim attended an all-day workshop on the sources of information on the European Union that was given by Ian Thomson of Cardiff University and held at the University of Pennsylvania School of Law.

He also coordinated and participated in a program entitled, Designers’ Workshop: Subject Guides that Create the Effect You Want, which was moderated by Lucie Olejnikova of Duke. Other speakers included Joelle Sciboz, the Digital Librarian at the UN’s Dag Hammarskjold Library, and Ingrid Mattson of the Ohio State University. The program was based on Jim’s paper entitled, Making the Horse Drink: The Design of Library Subject Guides, Spectrum (Nov. 2014).

Jim delivered a presentation on the theory of legal translation at Mighty MT: Enhancing the Value of Machine Translation Tools for FCIL Reference and Collection Services, which was coordinated by Don Ford of the University of Iowa. Other speakers included Saskia Mehlhorn, Interim Director of Library Services at Norton, Rose, Fulbright. All the speakers’ presentations were collected in a guide that Don Ford created.

As Chair of the Foreign, Comparative, and International Law SIS Nominating and Electronic Research Committees, Jim made reports on the activities of these Committees at the FCIL Business Meeting. Finally, as one of the two authors of a Report on the Survey on Interest in an FCIL Information Portal, Jim co-chaired a meeting (with Alex Zhang of Michigan) of the outgoing and incoming Chairs, the outgoing Secretary/Treasurer, and the incoming Vice Chair/Chair Elect on the Report and the future of the Portal.
